Ranch History

For centuries, the Saratoga, Wyoming region was a destination for Native Americans who came for the area’s natural hot springs. As American frontiersmen pushed westward in the late 19th century, it quickly became a hub for settlers, trappers, and loggers. The Sterrett brothers settled the land that would become Brush Creek Ranch in 1884, building the original homestead with logs cut, skid, and hauled from the adjacent area which is now part of Medicine Bow National Forest. The spirits of hard work, recreation, and adventure are prevalent in the archives of days past at the Ranch. This heritage is still apparent in the current incarnation of the land used as a luxury guest ranch, and visitors will find homage paid to these ideas all around them, meshed seamlessly with a plethora of modern amenities.

Brush Creek Ranch was first acquired in 2008 by Bruce White, Chairman and CEO of White Lodging, one of the most respected names in the hotel industry, and operator of award-winning premium hotel brands across the country. The White family has since acquired additional historic Ranchlands and unveiled new luxury ranch resorts where the spirit of hard work, recreation, and adventure are as prevalent today as in the archives of days past. The family’s vision unfolds as a highly refined 30,000-acre destination, striking a perfect balance between active outdoor recreation, shared experiences, personal renewal, economic sustainability, and preservation of the Western way of life.

Fishing & Wildlife

The crystalline waters of the North Platte River watershed in Saratoga Wyoming are celebrated as some of the most revered freestone fishing waters in the world.

Between Brush Creek, the North Platte River, the Encampment River, and their major tributaries, we offer over twenty miles of exclusive private river access, whether by waders or drift boat. Additionally the North Platte has nearly endless miles of blue-ribbon waters for hearty brown and rainbow trout. Flowing beautifully through broad canyons and sloping valleys, this river is one of the most iconic fly fishing destinations in North America.

Prime fishing seaosn runs from early May to mid July with August being a slow month. Once cooler weather comes back in September and October, our fisheries get a second wind for the season before winter shuts things down in December.

In addition to our moving waters, we have a collection of highly productive ponds on the Ranch, providing a scenic alternative style of fishing for all ages, in nearly any weather condition. Our seasoned staff of Orvis endorsed guides ensures attentive, personalized service, whether you desire detailed instruction or advice on how to maximize your time on these storied fishing waters.

Fishing on offer

spin, fly, river, stocked pond, lake, stream, equipment available, guided inclusive, unguided, instruction available

Wildlife

Antelope, deer, elk, moose, fox, badger, marmots, eagles and a wide variety of other North American bird species.

Saratoga Mineral Hot Springs

Located just a short drive away from the Ranch in Saratoga are the natural mineral Hot Springs that have been flowing up from the earth and out onto the open plains of Wyoming for hundreds of years. Often vistied by Native Americans at the turn of the century for their healing properties, these mineral springs attracted vistors from all around. Today these springs are one of the main draws for tourists in the area. These free public soaking pools are open 24 hours a day, all year round.
